A Drastic Change

If you're friends with me on Facebook, or follow me on Twitter, chances are you've already seen this. After growing my hair for over three years, I finally went for the chop. It's something that I've been wanting to do for quite a while because it got to the stage where it was taking a lot of work to do anything with it. My hair's really fine so even pulling it back into a ponytail is tricky because it just doesn't stay put.

This is what I looked like before, Mr Click was getting a hair cut the next day so wanted to be included in the before and after shots:

Before...
Please ignore the crazy smile and massive hoodie, like I said yesterday I was coming down with a cold and wanted comfort. This hoodie comes down almost to my knees, it's a bit like wearing a sleeping bag. When I brushed my hair back it could be pulled down to my bum, with the waves it looked a little bit shorter, but still ridiculously long.

The problem was that it took about three hours to dry when washed. It wasn't much good to do anything with other than leave long, scrape into a ponytail, or a plait or two. And no matter how often you brushed it, the minute you set the brush down, it was in tangles again.

I wanted something fashionable and easy to take care of and drastically different. If you're going to make a change, you might as well make it a proper, big change, so I went for this:

That's a side parting, shoulder-length, layered cut, plus it's been straightened. It's actually how I had my hair in my late teens/early twenties. I think it suits the shape of my face and as you can see, Mr Click is pretty pleased with it too.

And it's so much easier to take care of too; in the time that I would normally spend brushing my hair before work I managed to get it brushed and straightened, and still had time to spare. Plus when I wash it before going out it takes less than an hour to dry now, bonus!

Also, I feel like I should point out that I've posted not one, but two photos of myself here. You wait around for weeks for a 'self-portrait' and then two come along at once!

  1. That is a big change! I have never had the patience to grow out my hair that long. It's curly and frizzy and takes too much effort when it's longs. Plus, when I get really stressed out and anxious, my hair is the first thing that goes! I usually whack it off myself and have my girls make sure it's mostly straight. Curly hair is forgiving that way.

Anyway, your new cut looks great and frames your face nicely!

    1. Thank you.

It wasn't so much patience as being too lazy to get it cut. Plus I always feel a bit awkward sitting in the chair making conversation with the hairdresser.

I wish I could have just done it myself, hehe. I was trying to get my husband to just chop a bit off for me but he was worried about messing it up, probably just as well that he didn't because I'm sure this looks better.

  2. You look beautiful. I like the shorter hair and the way the side part frames your face.

    Very nice.

    1. Thank you. I had a centre parting for ages, but I much prefer the side parting for the way it looks. :-)

    1. Thank you, hoping this means I can start setting my alarm to go off fifteen minutes later, hehe.

  4. It looks really good on you. I have really long, straight hair too. I just had 2 inches cut off because I kept sitting on it and pulling my head back. lol But I like my long hair, so I won't be getting it cut any time soon.

    1. Thank you.

I like long hair too, but it could be quite awkward (mine was always getting caught in the side zip on my work trousers, hehe). Well done for keeping it long. ;-)

  5. I did the exact same thing today! I hadn't had my hair cut for over a year, and as a result it was really long - not quite as long as yours, but almost! But recently I've been having the same problems; tangles, taking ages to wash/dry, plus the ends were terrible! So I've been and had it cut today (I got some highlights too) and it's about the same length as yours. I love it, it's going to be much easier to manage :)
By the way, yours looks great :)

    1. Thanks. I know what you mean about finding it easier to manage. You'd think you could do more with longer hair, but I'm amazed at how limited I was before. Now I can straighten it and look smart, or leave it wavy and look casual, it's still just long enough to tie back and when I'm out on the wind there's less of it to blow around, hehe.

      :-)
