#atozchallenge Letters to my Embryos: V is for Vow

Welcome to Day 22 of the A to Z Challenge, an April blogging challenge where you aim post every day during the month following the letters of the alphabet (with every Sunday bar the last one off).

In the past I've used the challenge to blog about my infertility and the IVF process. I'm following a similar theme this year as we wait to begin the process for a Frozen Embryo Transfer, having completed a Freeze All IVF cycle in February.

We currently have nine embryos sitting on ice, my little bubbles, and this April I am blogging to them about the process of how they came to be.

Dear Bubbles,

Many (many) years ago, I vowed that one day I would become a mother. It was one of those things that I always wanted, in a different way to pretty much anything else I've ever wanted before.

I think there's two different ways of wanting things. There's the general longing for things, a new book, the latest games console, a little more money. And then there's that more crushing sort of longing; the one that twists at your insides and which you find yourself thinking about in the quietest moments of your day (and many busy ones in between).

You've been the latter kind of longing. The one which we've pursued over so many years, over all sorts of hurdles. But that's what you do when you make a promise to yourself, you do anything you can to make it into a reality.

I hope that one day you find something to feel this passionately about. It might be a hobby, a job, it might even be the desire to start a family of your own some day.

When that day comes, make a little vow to yourself, but please share it with me too. Because when you do, I'll make a new vow on your behalf; to help you achieve whatever you've set your heart upon.

All my love,

Your Mum.

  1. A vow to a child--that's sacred. I commend you. I tried to always tell my kids the truth--or explain why I didn't (in the case of Santa and the Easter Bunny).

  2. If you feel it in your bones, you will achieve it.

  4. I loved the way you described that crushing kind of longing. Because that's exactly how it feels. It acts as a driving force to achieve our dreams too.
